Privacy Policy — Spirefall
Effective date: August 8, 2026 Contact: support@spirefall.com
Spirefall is developed by The Private Sector Group, LLC, doing business as PSG Studios ("we", "us"). This policy describes how we handle information when you play the Spirefall Steam demo or use our playtest website.
The short version: the Steam demo collects nothing unless you opt in. It asks once, at first launch. If you decline — or ignore the question — no gameplay statistics and no crash reports are ever sent, and the demo plays exactly the same. Everything it can send when you do opt in is anonymous and described below.
What we collect
Steam demo. The demo works offline and does not require an account. Your progress may be stored on your device and, if you use it, in Steam Cloud. Steam Cloud is operated by Valve under Valve's privacy policy. We do not receive copies of your save data.
Anonymous gameplay statistics — only if you opt in. By default, the demo sends no statistics. At first launch it asks whether to send them, and it sends nothing before you answer; declining, or ignoring the question, leaves sending off. If — and only if — you say yes, then while you are online the demo sends anonymous gameplay statistics to help us improve the game (for example: which encounters are played, how runs end, and which menus are used). These statistics do not include your name, email address, Steam account, IP address, or device identifiers. They are keyed to a random install identifier generated on your device — it is not derived from your Steam account, hardware, or any personal information.
Crash reports — only if you opt in. The same single choice covers crash reports; players who have not opted in send none. If you opted in and the demo hits an error, it sends us an anonymous crash report so we can fix the bug: a technical error message and a stack trace (a list of the program code locations involved in the error). Before sending, the report is automatically edited on your device to remove folder names that could contain your computer username, and it is trimmed to a small fixed size. Crash reports do not include your name, email address, Steam account, IP address, save data, or anything you typed, and they use the same random install identifier as the statistics above.
You can change your answer at any time — see Your choices below for how opting in and out works and what opting out deletes.
Statistics and crash reports we receive are kept on our servers for up to 90 days and then deleted or reduced to aggregate totals that contain no install identifiers.
Playtest website. If you use our web playtest, we collect the information needed to run it: a sign-in identifier, your gameplay progress, and any feedback you choose to submit.
How we use information
We use this information only to operate, maintain, and improve Spirefall. We do not sell personal information and do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Your choices
Anonymous statistics and crash reports (Steam demo).
- Opting in. The first time you launch the demo, it asks whether to send anonymous gameplay statistics and crash reports. Nothing is sent unless you say yes — declining, or simply ignoring the question, leaves sending off. The demo is fully playable offline and with sending off.
- Changing your answer. You can opt in or out at any time with the "Send anonymous gameplay statistics & crash reports" toggle in the in-game settings.
- Opting out. Turning the setting off stops collection, immediately deletes anything queued on your device that has not yet been sent, and deletes the random install identifier from your device. If you later opt back in, a new identifier is created and only future play is affected.
- Data already on our servers. Statistics and crash reports are anonymous and cannot be linked back to you or your Steam account, so we are not able to find and delete one specific person's records on request. Everything we receive is deleted or reduced to aggregate totals within 90 days regardless.
Playtest website data. To ask about or request deletion of playtest data tied to your account, contact support@spirefall.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under local law.
Children
Spirefall is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do.
